Along with donning their ladies fitness wear and exercising more, teenagers will be more likely to lose excess weight if they drink fruit juice, a new study has suggested.
Research published in the March/April issue of the American Journal of Health Promotion shows that adolescents who drink 100 per cent fruit juice are more likely to have healthier diets overall compared to those who do not opt for fruity beverages.
The study found that those aged 12 to 18 who drank any amount of 100 percent juice had lower amounts of saturated fat in their diets but higher intakes of key nutrients, such as Vitamins C and B6, folate, potassium and iron.
Dr Theresa Nicklas, of the Children's Nutrition Research Center at Baylor College of Medicine and the lead researcher in the study, said: "One hundred percent juice is a smart choice."
"It provides important nutrients that growing teens need and the research consistently shows that drinking fruit juice is not linked to being overweight," she added.
According to the NHS, girls under the age of 18 should take part in an hour's worth of exercise each day, which could include playing sport at school in ladies fitness wear.
