Kenyan runner Linet Chepkwemoi Masai has won gold at the Athletics World Championships in Germany.
This is the first time a gold medal has featured around the neck of a Kenyan athlete wearing women's running wear in 12 years for this event, achieved in a team race that saw the 19-year-old fend off challenges from the Ethiopian team.
Speaking after the race Ms Chepkwemoi said that she was pleased with her success in her debut at the event.
She said: "I can't believe it! I'm so grateful for the win. I didn't give up. The plan of the Kenyan team was to assist ourselves toward the end.
"I felt some pain inside and it started bothering me the last couple of laps. The last 30 metres, I had trouble lifting my legs."
The Masai completed the race in a time of 30:51.24, which is some way off her personal best of 30:26.50 recorded in the Beijing Olympics last year.
