Some ten percent of adults in the UK are now so obese that their GPs fear their weight is posing a serious risk to their health, a study has shown, which could interest those seeking to invest in new gym clothing.

The Hospital Group claimsthat almost 2.8 million people across the nation are now classed as obese and are being treated for type 2 diabetes.

This disease is strongly linked to a lack of exercise and poor diet, which can also cause heart attacks and high blood pressure.

"Not only does being overweight have a huge impact on your health but it can also impact a person's confidence and self esteem which can cause their social life to suffer too," said David Ross, chief executive of the Hospital Group.

Last month, a spokeswoman from Slimming World said that people are most successful in losing weight when they use increasing confidence and improving health as their motivation.
