Chocolate milk could become the most popular post-exercise recovery beverage for those in their ladies fitness clothing as studies have suggested it helps to repair muscles and restores glycogen.
The two studies involved eight people, who completed two 45-minute runs and, following each session, drank either 16 ounces of fat-free chocolate milk or 16 ounces of a carbohydrate-only beverage, which had the same amount of calories as the milk.
Dr William Lunn, one of the researchers involved in the studies, found that the chocolate milk supported skeletal muscle protein synthesis more than the carbohydrate beverage.
"Chocolate milk can be relatively inexpensive compared to commercially available recovery drinks and is easy to make at home, making it a viable and palatable option for many people," said Dr Lunn.
The studies were presented at the American College of Sports Medicine's 57th annual meeting in Baltimore earlier this week.
Another piece of research presented at the meeting suggested that female college students who want to improve their academic performance should don their ladies fitness wear and exercise every day.
