Ladies fitness wear: Exercise improves wellbeing of schizophrenics

Regular exercise in ladies fitness wear can play an important a role in improving the physical and mental wellbeing of women with schizophrenia, experts have suggested.

A review, published in the Cochrane Library, systematically studied the most up-to-date research on exercise in schizophrenia.

Researchers found that exercise programmes improved the mental state of schizophrenic patients in terms of anxiety and depression, particularly when compared to standard care alone.

They concluded that the current guidelines for exercise issued to the general population should also be followed by people with schizophrenia.

"So 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on most or all days of the week is a good goal to aim for. Start slowly and build up," lead researcher Guy Faulkner, of the Faculty of Physical Education and Health at the University of Toronto, Canada, explained.

Earlier this month, research conducted by the University of Essex suggested that just five minutes of exercise outside in ladies fitness wear can improve women's mood, self-esteem and mental health, as well as having physical benefits.
