Putting on ladies fitness clothing an exercising as part of a group makes an individual work harder than when they do the same activity on their own, an ex-Olympic athlete has claimed.
Lord Sebastian Coe, who won the 1,500m gold medal at both the 1980 and 1984 Olympic games, wrote in a piece for the Telegraph that he usually exercises on his own but that when he trains down at the gym with his friend Joe he works 20 or 30 per cent harder.
The Sheffield-born athlete emphasised the importance of individuals choosing an activity that actually appeals to them.
"Whatever you choose, you should try to do it three times a week for no less than half an hour at a time," he wrote.
Lord Coe went on to explain that, by doing this, exercise becomes habit-forming.
Those who fancy taking inspiration from the Olympian and taking up running should first make sure they are kitted out in the correct men's or women's running wear, according to Bupa.
It recommends wearing a good pair of running shoes, nylon or lycra running shorts and - for the women - a supportive sports bra.
