Those who want to really push their endurance to the limit may wish to change into their ladies running clothing and join the increasing number of people that are taking up stair running.
Millionaire businessman Duncan Bannatyne, one of the judges on the BBC's Dragons' Den, is one of the fitness enthusiasts that has taken up this form of exercise.
This year he will, once again, take part in Vertical Rush, a tower run in which participants raise money for homeless charity Shelter.
Some 1,200 runners will take part in the race on February 25th at Tower 42 in London.
The tower is the tallest building in the city and has a staggering 920 steps.
Before individuals can don their ladies running wear and take part in the event they must first pay a £35 registration fee and raise a minimum of £150 from sponsors.
Bupa advises that, when running, people should hold their hands in a relaxed fist with their thumbs resting on their forefingers.
