Clothing that is made without exploiting workers or the environment, which could include bamboo fitness wear, is becoming increasingly popular and London has been highlighted as being at the forefront of this trend.
Josie Nicholson, associate director of Ethical Fashion Forum, said that London is now seen as the "leader in ethical fashion" partly because of the Estethica section at London Fashion Week.
She said it was also due to "famous fashion colleges such as London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martins who are encouraging students to be more radical in their approach to sustainability and intelligent use of fabric".
Her comments follow a speech by environment minister Dan Norris at London Fashion Week, in which he announced new signatories to the Sustainable Clothing Action Plan.
Organisations that have recently signed up to the scheme include the British Retail Consortium, Levis Strauss and the Society of Dyers and Colourists and they are all working to create an industry free of exploitation.
