Most women are 'unaware of the dangers of excess fat'

Many overweight women may have made new year's resolutions to get active in their ladies gym wear to improve their appearance, but most are unaware of the dangers that excess weight poses, according to a recent report.

The report from GlaxoSmithKline found that 88 per cent of people do notknow about the serious health problems that can be caused by being overweight.

After hearing about the associated risks caused by visceral fat, which sits around the organs, 64 per cent of the adults surveyed said they were more motivated to lose weight.

Professor David Haslam, chair of the National Obesity Forum, said that visceral fat can lead to "serious long-term medical problems" such as diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

He advised people to make "sustainable changes in not just food intake but also physical activity", which could include making more trips to a local fitness centre in gym wear.
