Mums should don their ladies fitness wear and get exercising to set a good example and prevent their kids from becoming overweight, an American basketball player has suggested.
Tyson Chandler, who plays for the Charlotte Bobcats, said that today is an era of video games and that children rarely go out and play sports as they spend their free time in front of the TV or computer screen, the Morning Call reports.
Speaking to the newspaper, Chandler said: ''Parents need to find the time [to exercise]. They need to be role models for their sons and daughters and pick up a ball and start throwing it themselves, get on a bike and start riding. They can help their kids get started with a healthy lifestyle.''
The 7ft 1in player explained that he has asthma and does not see it as an excuse to shy away from exercise. He said that he has developed a good regimen with his doctor when it comes to his asthma, so it does not stop him from donning his gym wear and taking part in sport.
David Beckham recently revealed that he suffers from the condition and the NHS advises that people with controlled asthma can exercise, but it is wise to consult a doctor first.
