The NHS in Hull has been linking with professional sports clubs to gauge fans' interest in designer nicotine patches that could match the colours of women's fitness wear.
It carried out a survey among fans of Hull City,Hull KR and Hull FC to identify potential demand for club-branded nicotine patches, which it believes would make quitting the habit more appealing to smokers.
The nicotine patches proposed by the NHS could be coordinated with the colours of women's sportswear, with an online poll revealing eight in ten fans believe smokers would buy patches manufactured in their favourite club's colours.
The results showed that only a quarter of those polled had tried nicotine patches, despite 93 per cent of smokers looking to quit.
Jo Cole, public health manager for tobacco control at NHS Hull, said: "Branded nicotine patches would help encourage people to try them more readily, which could result in more of Hull's smokers stopping smoking."
When quitting smoking, the website simplystopsmoking.co.uk recommends using old habits of smoking to form new, healthier ones. For example, instead of smoking a cigarette, go for a short walk or do some stretching exercises in your women's yoga clothing for ten minutes.
