Nearly 25% of Brits 'blame summer for giving up exercise'

Nearly a quarter of all Brits blame the hot summer weather as the reason they hung up their gym clothing and failed to keep up their exercise routines.

A survey conducted on behalf of Yakult into exercise and eating habits found that a great number of people felt they had put on weight over the summer.

The average person estimated that they were carrying around a stone of excess weight.

Many believed that the World Cup had a detrimental effect on their waistlines, with 14 per cent admitting that they had consumed more food and drink than normal during the tournament.

The study coincides with the launch of Gut Week, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of good inner health.

One person who did not give up their exercise regime over the summer was GMTV's weather girl Clare Nasir.

She was spotted last month by the Daily Mail, working out outside a London fitness centre in some skimpy luminous yellow gym clothes.
