New exercise craze: Qilelates

06 July 2010 12:00

Women looking to don their ladies gym clothing and take up a new form of exercise should consider giving Qilates a go.

Those seeking a high-octane workout that will get their hearts racing should perhaps look elsewhere, as Qilates is more about restoring inner peace and increasing energy than burning calories.

Louise Pyne, writing for Women's Fitness, explained that the exercise is designed to rebalance a person's yin and yang and get rid of negative emotions.

It is believed that the exercise restores the natural flow of energy in the body, which helps to leave people feeling happier and healthier.

"Qilates not only helps beat mental demons, but it also helps to improve flexibility, strength and coordination," Ms Pyne wrote in the magazine.

Those wanting an exercise that involves a bit more - but not too much - movement should try Extreme Pilates, More recommended earlier this year.

Basic Instinct actress Sharon Stone told the magazine that she favours this form of exercise.
