Women across the country may shortly be donning their ladies gym clothing and heading down to the local fitness centre to take part in a new exercise craze: Fitness ballet.
In a feature for the Guardian's Life and Style section, journalist Georgia Brown explains how she attended one of the sessions to find a crowd of women of all different shapes and ages.
Ms Brown writes that the various exercises, including pirouettes and plies, did not "let up" on her heart rate and that the class worked her harder than her usual fitness regime.
On the fitness ballet website, founder Kirsty Pellant said that she created the form of exercise "so that everybody could have the chance at attending a class that is ballet-orientated but that has been designed so that the untrained dancer can enjoy and get a great workout from this unique class."
The NHS recommends dancing as a fun but effective form of exercise and said that any form of physical activity is good for health and can lower the risk of heart disease.
