Construction has started on a new leisure facility in Oxford, which will provide women in the area with greater opportunity to don their ladies gym clothing and improve their fitness.

A new gym, changing facilities and reception are being built at Barton Pool in Waynflete Road, the Oxford Mail reports.

Pool manager David Hunt said that the £630,000 improvements would, without a doubt, benefit people who live in the area.

"The whole community will soon have access to affordable facilities you would normally only expect to find in expensive private clubs," he told the newspaper.

Some 45 pieces of equipment will be installed in the new gym and separate dry and wet changing rooms are also to be made available.

The new facilities will be unveiled in October.

Earlier this month, the Star reported that the gym at Doncaster Dome is soon to host Zumba classes.

These dance sessions incorporate elements of the salsa and samba and aim to get people off their sofas and out having fun while also keeping fit.
