Women in Northampton will soon have nicer environments in which to don their gym clothing and exercise in thanks to a large refurbishment project.
Northampton Borough Council-managed Trilogy gyms are to undergo £500,000 worth of refurbishment from next month, the Northampton Herald and Post reports.
New cardio fitness equipment, which has built-in personal TV screens and is compatible with iPod, mp3 and mp4 technology, will be installed in the gyms.
The work will also include redecoration and new flooring will be fitted in the venues.
Councillor Paul Varnsverry, Northampton Borough Council cabinet member for leisure, said: "Good gyms need good, up to date equipment, so this is a positive development for our gyms and their members."
He went on to say that the Trilogy gyms work with the NHS, doctors and schools to help improve the health of the local population.
Professional rugby player Chris Thorman recently encouraged school students to exercise more by holding fitness sessions at a gym in York, the York Press reported.
