Women who do not don their ladies fitness clothing and exercise regularly are putting themselves at risk of becoming obese and developing cancer, an expert has suggested.
Tam Fry, National Obesity Forum board member and chair for the Child Growth Foundation, said that the message does not seem to be getting across that obesity is associated with cancer.
His comments follow the recent publication of research by New York University, which claimed that if a person is overweight or obese from childhood their risk of developing colon cancer is doubled.
Mr Fry said that the credit crunch has forced more people to rely on junk food or fast food than before as they have less disposable income.
He suggested that these people need to exercise more than usual in their men's or women's fitness clothing as they are eating more saturated fat and have more calories to burn off.
Mr Fry also implied that more needs to be done to prevent children from becoming overweight.
