Nursing home staff complete charity exercise session

Nursing home staff complete charity exercise session

30 September 2010 15:22

Staff from a nursing home in Devon donned their gym clothing and took part in a 12-hour exercise session to raise money for charity.

The workers from Beaconville Nursing Home in Ivybridge, completed the fitness event to raise money for Help for Heroes and the home's activity fund, the Plymouth Evening Herald reported.

Money put towards the activity fund will be used to provide musical entertainment and arts and crafts equipment to the home's 35 residents.

"It has been a team effort, we made sure there was one piece of equipment going at all times," Morag Rowse, activities co-ordinator at Beaconville Nursing Home, told the newspaper.

The challenge, which involved treadmills and exercise bikes, was undertaken by 15 staff members and their friends.

Sponsor money is still being collected, but Ms Rowse said she hopes to raise around £500 in total.

Earlier this month, some 150 people donned their men's and ladies fitness clothing to take part in the Blackpool Memory Walk, which raised money for the Alzheimer's Society.
