A pensioner has paid regular visits to the gym in her ladies fitness clothing and managed to lose a third of her body weight.

Retired nurse Stephanie Leslie visits the gym four times a week in order to make sure she stays in shape and is fit and healthy, the Kentish Express reports.

The 86-year-old started going to the gym four years ago when she was put on a weight-loss course by her doctor.

"I had raised blood pressure and cholesterol and I knew I needed to do something," she told the newspaper.

She uses a variety of gym equipment in her workouts, including exercise bikes, cross trainers, steppers, rowing machines and an assisted chin-up machine.

All of these have helped 5ft Ms Leslie to drop from 11st 9lb to 7st 6lb.

Earlier in the year, new fitness suites containing a number of gym machines opened at two of Leeds Metropolitan University's campuses, providing students and locals alike with the opportunity to exercise more.
