Asthma symptoms are more likely to be reported by obese people when they are exercising in their gym clothing than people of a healthy weight doing the same activity, a study has revealed.
Obese people are more likely to report asthma symptoms while exercising in their gym clothing than those who are of a healthy weight, a study has found.
Some 673 people were involved in a new study and 71 per cent of these reported exercise-induced asthma (ETA).
This condition affects up to 90 per cent of asthma sufferers, the study's lead author Simon Bacon claims.
"We also found that every one-point increase in body mass index score was associated with a nine per cent increase in the probability of reporting exercise-induced asthma," he added.
Mr Bacon said that ETA could lead to a sedentary lifestyle, which can cause increased weight and worsening health.
The results of the study have published in the journal the Physician and Sportsmedicine.
Research published in the August issue of Chest revealed that regular aerobic exercise could help to improve respiratory symptoms and psychological distress in adult female asthma sufferers.
