Obese women should work at strengthening their core muscles before donning their ladies fitness clothing and exercising outside, an expert has claimed.
Exercise and nutrition consultant Alan Gordon suggested that building these muscleswill help people to exercise and lose weight.
"Even before you go out walking, you need to make sure that you get your core right," he explained.
Mr Gordon recommended the plank as a great exercise for improving core strength, but advised overweight people to start by doing a half plank, working up to the full plank when their bodies are ready.
He also advised people to invest in a vital piece of ladies fitness wear - a pair of good-quality trainers.
His comments follow claims from Imperial College London that the worldwide prevalence of obesity has nearly doubled since 1980.
Research by the college, published in the Lancet, also assessed how body mass index, blood pressure levels and cholesterol changed between 1980 and 2008.
