Women boxers have welcomed the inclusion of their sport in the Olympics from 2012 by the International Olympic Committee.
The decision could see the profile of the sport in the UK raised, where the Olympics will be hosted during its debut year.
This may also see a boost in demand for specialised women's sportswear for female boxers if interest in the sport grows.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, boxer Marianne Marston said that this will help people recognise women's "strength, toughness and technique to take part in the sport".
She told the newspaper: "Some people look down on women boxing, but it has given me so much.
"I'm just glad that its higher profile will lead to more women gaining the benefits that I have."
Unfortunately, 35-year-old Marston will not be able to box in the Olympics herself, having already reached the age limit.
However, this is not the case for New Zealander Dawn Chalmers, who welcomed the opportunity as a "dream come true".
Speaking to the Nelson Mail, she said that she had been holding her breath for women's boxing to be included.
