Drinking lots of water is important when doing a long session at the gym in ladies fitness wear, yet many people are confused about just how much they should be consuming, according to a nutritionist.
Bridget Benelam, senior nutrition scientist at the British Nutrition Foundation, said that there is a lot of conflicting advice in the public domain as to how much water should be consumed and that this is causing the widespread confusion.
"On the one hand, there is information saying you must drink excessive amounts and then some people say you don't need to drink that much," she said.
A report published this week by the foundation advises people to drink around 1.2 litres of fluid a day, which is equivalent to between six and eight glasses.
Ms Benelam went on to say that she hopes the foundations' new guide will provide greater clarity on the subject.
According to the British Nutrition Foundation, drinking less than 1.2 litres of fluid a day can lead to dehydration, which is known to be a cause of headaches, fatigue and feeling physically and mentally sluggish.
