Women concerned about the threat of type 2 diabetes might want to think about losing some weight, it is suggested, perhaps in their ladies fitness wear.
Those who are overweight may need to be wary of the condition, according to Dr Dawn Harper.
The expert commented: "For some people actually just losing weight and eating more healthily is all you have to do to get things back on track."
Dr Harper, whose past TV credits include programmes like Embarrassing Bodies, added that the rate at which cases of type 2 diabetes is going up is a cause for concern.
Meanwhile, more people may be getting the condition because "as a nation we are getting fatter and fatter", she went onto say.
Of those people polled in a recent MSD survey, 69 per cent of respondents were not aware of the fact that that type 2 diabetes and heart problems can be related.
