Qualified personal trainers could be posing a health risk to their clients, according to a leading exercise and nutrition expert.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, exercise specialist Alan Gordon explained that a personal trainer with a certificate is not necessarily an expert.
He told the newspaper: "But showing you their certificate from an official training organisation does not mean the trainer has the expertise to know how your body moves biomechanically.
"This is essential to a personal training programme because everybody moves in a different way."
In the same article, the Daily Mail considered the case of mother-of-four Dawn Elliot, who was told by doctors to hang up her gym clothing for good after her personal trainer aggravated a prolapsed spinal disc.
Louisiana University's Dr Timothy Church recently suggested that diet is as important as exercise, claiming that women should make sure they concentrate on what they put into their bodies when they are out of their gym clothing.
