Aspects of an individual's personality could be linked to their capacity to exercise in their gym clothing, recent research has suggested.
This has been detailed in a review article published in the journal Trends in Ecology and Evolution, authored by Dr Peter Biro, a senior lecturer in the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Evolution and Ecology Research Centre and his colleague Judy Stamps of the University of California.
"Some of us are couch potatoes while others are drawn to sport and exercise," notes Dr Biro.
He went on to say that athletic "jock-type" people are often associated with being aggressive and social, but that more sedentary people can be seen as socially awkward and submissive.
"Research suggests that this behaviour might be related to an individual's capacity to generate energy - its metabolic capacity," Dr Biro explained.
Back in August, research conducted by the School for Public Health and Primary Care at Maastricht University in the Netherlands suggested that people who do not exercise regularly tend to visit their GPs more frequently than those who lead more active lifestyles.
