Women donning their bamboo yoga wear and practicing pilates should realise that it is not just a basic form of exercise, it has many elements that require understanding, according to a pilates expert.
Brooke Siler, author of Your Ultimate Pilates Body Challenge, believes that those practicing pilates need to gain a thorough understanding of good sound body movement before they can fully benefit from the exercise.
The pilates guru, who also created the DVD Pilates Weight Loss for Beginner, said: "Once you've gotten it down it works from the inside out," Silar told United Press International.
"It effects how you move [and] it only takes about a one hour workout once a week - it doesn't take much to maintain."
The owner of the nyc Pilates studio learned pilates from Romana Kryzanowska, who Siler claims to be the oldest living protege of Joseph Pilates - the man who developed the system of exercises.
According to the NHS, women who want to don their gym wear and get active, but are worried about the strain exercise will put on their joints, should try attending a pilates class.
