Yoga may be one of the more relaxing forms of exercise that women can do in their ladies fitness clothing, but that does not mean that it is injury-free, one commentator has warned.
Deep breathing is one of the most important things to focus on when practicing yoga as it relaxes the muscles and prevents strains and sprains, Debi Lewis, owner of Joyflow Yoga in Ridgeland, Mississippi, suggested to clarionledger.com.
Another instructor Barbara Nobles, who owns Body Benefits, also based in Ridgeland, told the website that people should start slowly, not over exert themselves and concentrate on aligning their joints properly.
"Don't force the body into a pose. Our body will signal us when we've gone too far. Feeling pain is doing something not quite right," Ms Nobles explained.
If performed properly, exercise can be an excellent tool in relieving pain, a recent study by the University of Montreal revealed.
Researchers found that an exercise machine designed specifically for back muscles relieved discomfort in patients with lumbago (lower back pain).
