Walking from the back rather than from the front can help to boost fitness, it has been claimed.
Many people may think it odd to don women's fitness wear for a stroll down to the shop, for example, but sports science expert and celebrity fitness adviser Joanna Hall believes that walking correctly has significant benefits for health.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Ms Hall explained that using muscles on the back of the legs, such as the gluteals, will improve fitness benefits and posture while walking.
MS Hall, who has penned 11 books and has coached S Club singer and Strictly Come Dancing Star Rachel Stevens, said that it is as simple as mastering a few simple movements.
She told the newspaper: "Walking is the simplest and cheapest form of exercise that you can do at any age or any stage of your life.
"I want to encourage women to embark on an exercise programme that is sustainable and walking is the key to this."
Ms Hall describes walking as the "foundation" of all of her activity, claiming that it can improve stamina, fitness and help to manage weight.
