Protect skin with 'moisture-binding products' while out in ladies running wear

11 January 2010 17:14

Women who want to protect themselves from skin damage caused by the harsh winter elements, perhaps when out jogging in their ladies running wear, should use products that contain moisture-binding ingredients and increase their intake of essential fats, according to Nair.

Louise Thomas-Minns, Nair skin therapist, said that women should opt for a product that contains humectant (moisture-binding) ingredients such as hyaluronic acid. These act like a sponge drawing moisture deep into the skin, she explained.

Essential fats are also good for the skin and can be found in foods such as avocado, oily fish, raw nuts and seeds.

She said that these fats are "vital for maintaining the delicate protective membrane of the skin cells".

For women that feel their skin has suffered due to being out in their ladies sportswear in the snow and wind or those that have been working out in their gym wear at a fitness centre with central heating, Ms Thomas-Minns recommends using products that contain natural ingredients.

"Blotchy, reddened skin can be addressed by utilising products that contain rose hip oil, lavender oil, aloe vera and oat extracts, all of which will act to calm and soothe irritation," she said.
