Regular daily exercise breaks in gym clothing 'will control weight'

Women can control their weight by taking regular exercise breaks during the work day, perhaps in their gym clothing, the National Obesity Forum has suggested.

Tam Fry, spokesperson for the forum, said that weight gain is "inevitable" if people are sitting down at work from nine-to-five and then go home and sit in front of a computer or TV set all night.

"There is nothing better than exercise first thing in the morning," he said, adding that this, and a "sensible" breakfast, perks people up for the day ahead.

He went on to say that breaks for short workouts during the day will provide energy and burn a lot of calories, but stressed that these need to be high-intensity "bursts" of psychical activity, not just a walk to the coffee machine every now and again.

His comments follow the publication of research by the British Journal of Sport Medicine, which found that desk-bound workers are more likely to suffer weight-related health problems such as high blood pressure and diabetes.
