Runners will don their gym clothing this weekend for an 'ultramarathon' in New York.
On Sunday (June 9th) a small group will start to run around a 0.5488-mile block in the Big Apple.
They will do this 5,650 times in total over 52days to complete the 3,100-mile Transcendental Race.
The runners will have to average nearly 60 miles a day to finish within the 52-day time limit.
According to the Guardian, more and more people are donning their men's and women's running clothing and taking part in ultramarathons.
Personal trainer Rob Blakeman, who has trained boxers Ricky Hatton and Mike Tyson, suggested to the newspaper that such tough workouts can be bad for the body and result in flu-like symptoms.
"It's a systemic stress. If you don't allow that systemic stress to subside before you go back to the gym, you break the cycle of improvement," he explained.
On June 2nd, women across the US put on their ladies fitness wear and took part in National Running Day.
