Older women who have decided to invest in some ladies fitness clothing and take up exercise should try a number of different gyms out before they sign a contract with just one.
This is according to Lisa Milbrand, who wrote in a piece for Arthritis Today Magazine that most gyms offer free trials, so people can try out all of the facilities before committing to a contract.
"Tour the gym and confirm you're comfortable with everything from the locker rooms to the other clientele," she advises.
Dr Sheldon Zinberg, who founded the 50-plus-only gyms Nifty After Fifty, told Ms Milbrand that large gyms with mostly younger members can intimidate seniors.
Some gyms even offer senior-specific classes or sessions, so Ms Milbrand advises looking out for these when choosing a gym.
Earlier this month, 94-year-old Christine Fryer told the Croydon Advertiser that she will spend her impending 95th birthday in her favourite place - the gym.
