Young women who either sleep either above or below the recommended eight hours a night may be more likely to need to invest in ladies fitness wear so as to stay in shape.
That is the suggestion of the findings of a newstudy which looked into the possible relationship between amounts of sleep and weight among young adults,
The researchers, who were working at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, found that those study participants who slept for an average of five to six hours a night were more likely to have larger deposits of belly fat several years later than those who averaged around seven hours a night.
Furthermore, a heightened risk of becoming overweight was also seen among those participants who slept for more than eight hours a night, suggesting that keeping a strict sleep regime may be an effective means of reducing then need for gym gear over the age of 40.
However, speaking to Reuters Health, lead researcher Dr Kristen Hairston explained that, since individual's needs vary significantly, it is best to seek out medical help rather than rely on more general trends for health advice.
Meanwhile, a new paper published in the Archives of General Psychiatry has once again linked obesity with a heightened risk of depression.
