Young women who do not get enough sleep may find that they lose motivation to don their ladies fitness clothing and exercise, a study has suggested.
The research, published in the September 1st issue of the peer-reviewed journal Sleep, found that teenagers who slept less than eight hours per weeknight also ate higher proportions of fatty foods than those who slept for eight hours or more.
These results suggest that short sleep duration could increase an adolescent's obesity risk by causing small changes to their eating patterns.
Dr Susan Redline, senior author of the study, said: "The demonstration of chronically-altered dietary patterns in adolescents with shorter sleep provides insight into why shorter sleep has been associated with obesity in prior experimental and observational studies."
Back in July, fitness studio owner Mike Bates, writing for the Windsor Star, claimed that people who start exercising more will experience the best sleep they have had in years.
