Sleeping well 'aids weight loss'

While exercise in ladies fitness wear is a good way to shed extra pounds, a medical expert has said that getting a few more hours of shut-eye a night could help women to lose even more weight.

Dr Shahrad Taheri, a consultant endocrinologist at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, explained that he and his team have conducted a series of studies looking at the relationship between weight and sleeping patterns and also looking in detail at people's metabolic rates.

"We discovered that people who sleep for significantly less than seven hours a night often end up being obese," he said.

Those who want to improve the quality and quantity of the sleep they are getting should consider donning their ladies yoga clothing and taking part in the Indian form of meditation, research published back in December suggested.

Students of the American Meditation Institute's six-week Heart and Science of Yoga course found that they slept better having attended the regular yoga sessions and they also reported decreased cholesterol and blood pressure.
