Students in India are being invited to don their men's and ladies fitness clothing and to take part in pre-exam relaxation sessions.

Those preparing to have a go at exams, or 'boards', this year in Bangalore have been listening to traditional Indian Carnatic music while practicing yoga poses, the Times of India reports.

"We take special care for students preparing for boards. We have had students who said it helps them to relax," the newspaper reports Delhi Public School's yoga teacher, known simply as 'Aayeeshah', as saying.

She went on to say that the yoga sessions help students to focus, increase their memory power and help them to think in a practical way.

Last month, researchers from Boston University School of Medicine suggested that women who take part in yoga can experience a lift in their moods.

They found that those who get involved in the yoga sessions for 12 weeks also suffered less from anxiety.
