The hoodie: Ladies gym wear en vogue

13 January 2010 13:23

Women need no longer feel unfashionable in their ladies sportswear as one particular item has been worn recently on the Paris catwalks: the hoodie.

Balenciaga designer Nicolas Ghesquiere and Gareth Pugh both featured hoodies on their Paris catwalks this season and both Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs have included the gym wear item in their lower-priced lines, the Guardian reports.

"When you wear a hoodie in a luxurious fabric, or combine a jersey one with a smart jean or a high-heeled shoe, the juxtaposition really works as a style statement," Anita Borzyszkowska, Gap's vice-president of public relations in Europe, told the newspaper.

She added that the rise of the hoodie is part of the return of sportswear influences to fashion.

Back in October 2009, She magazine predicted that sportswear would be fashionable in 2010.

Pamela Harris, deputy fashion editor at the monthly women's magazine said that the resurgence in 1990s trends would be centred on updated versions of two looks - sporty and grunge.
