Some of Britain's top female athletes are gearing up to head to Abu Dhabi for the United Arab Emirate's inaugural International Triathlon.
Due to take place on March 12th, several world-class competitors have already confirmed that they are to pack up their ladies running wear and take part in the event, which will see competitors race alongside the iconic waterfront panorama.
Among the 800 athletes from 30 countries set to take part are reigning female 'Ironman' world champion Julie Diebens, as well as her compatriot, the former Olympian Leanda Cave, while organisers have also opened the event up to keen amateurs, as they look to place Abu Dhabi firmly on the world triathlon map.
"The triathlon promises to be a unique event and one which captures the imagination of millions and achieving significant exposure for Abu Dhabi in both traditional and emerging markets," Faisal al Sheikh, head of major events at the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), told the National.
At the same time, those women leaving their ladies' running gear at home but in Abu Dhabi on the day will be able to take advantage of a specially-built 'Tri Zone', offering high-class hospitality and unrivalled views of the sporting event.
Abu Dhabi boasts more than 20 public parks and gardens, as well as ten kilometres of public beaches, making it an ideal destination to get active while on holiday.
