Triathlons 'are great for all-round fitness'

Women looking to improve their fitness should consider investing in some ladies sportswear and taking part in triathlon training, one commentator has suggested.

Health and Fitness magazine's Emma Morris recently took part in the BleinheimTriathlon near Oxford and finished third in her age category of the Super Sprint distance.

"Triathlon's an exciting sport to compete in and to watch and it's great for all-round fitness," she said.

She went on to explain that the training for the sport is so varied that "you don't get bored with it".

The competition she took part in entailed a 400m swim, a 13km cycle ride and a 3km run.

"I can't wait for my next tri challenge!" Ms Morris concluded.

Earlier this month Steve Halsall, the Daily Mirror's lifestyle and fitness guru, said that triathlons are increasing in popularity, as are other outdoor pursuits such as running and walking.

He suggested people's preference for free outdoor exercise was partly due to the effects of the recession on the nation's purse strings.
