A celebrity fitness guru has claimed that vanity is the thing that motivates many women to don their ladies fitness clothing and exercise.

Tracy Anderson, who is Gwyneth Paltrow's personal trainer, said that people feel much better when they look good, Style magazine reports.

"Everyone knows you need exercise to be healthy, but health is not enough. I have seen that vanity is the most powerful motivator," she said.

Ms Anderson went on to say that, once women see what exercise does for their looks, that is it - they are hooked.

She added that women become more focused when they see their bodies changing and that they "learn to love to sweat".

Ms Anderson said that it is not just the women who benefit from working out, but their boyfriends and husbands too who get to enjoy being with a healthier and happier partner.

This time last year, www.goodsurgeonguide.co.uk conducted a survey of 1,228 women and found that the most popular new year's resolution among the respondents was improving their appearance.
