Not enough people are aware that they can reduce their cancer risk by donning their gym clothing and exercising regularly, the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) has claimed.
Teresa Nightingale, general manager of the organisation, said that she hopes the upcoming World Cancer Day helps to address this lack of education.
"By harnessing the energy of cancer-related organisations across the globe, World Cancer Day can play an important role in the effort against the disease," she added.
Ms Nightingale said that the WCRF is "delighted" to support the Union for International Cancer Control in the work it does for World Cancer Day.
She went on to highlight that eating a healthy diet can reduce a person's risk of developing cancer, but that this is not widely known either.
World Cancer Day takes place on February 4th each year, promoting ways in which the global burden of the disease can be tackled.
According to the World Health Organisation, 84 million people will die of cancer between 2005 and 2015 without intervention.
