Walking 'prevents decline in women with PAD'

Women suffering from peripheral artery disease (PAD) can reduce the risk of the medical complaint worsening by donning their ladies fitness clothing and walking more, a study has shown.

PAD causes blockages in the arteries in the legs and increases the sufferer's risk of suffering a stroke and heart attack.

Dr Mary McDermott, professor of medicine and preventive medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, and a team of researchers studied 380 men and women with PAD over the course of four years.

"We know that supervised treadmill exercise can prevent decline, so it's especially important for women with PAD to get the diagnosis and engage in walking exercise to try and protect against decline," Dr McDermott said following the study.

Last week, the results of a study conducted by Pampers Baby-Dry revealed that British mothers walk more than 639 miles with their babies' pushchairs in the first year of their child's life.
