Women trying to lose weight should don their ladies fitness clothing and tailor their exercise regimes to the weather, an expert has claimed.

Celebrity doctor Christian Jessen, who presents the Channel 4 show Embarrassing Bodies, said that women should exercise where it is most comfortable and pleasant to do so.

He said: "If it's really baking hot outside, obviously don't go for a run in the hot street - that's going to make you feel awful. Why not go for a swim?"

Dr Jessen went on to note that more people tend to take up exercise in the summer as they want to look their best when they wear more revealing clothes.

The doctor's comments follow the recent publication of a study by the Medical Research Council, which found that people who have a genetic disposition to obesity can reduce the impact of those genes by adopting an active lifestyle.
