Women feeling a bit low should don their ladies yoga clothing and take part in the Indian form of meditation as a study has found this to be more affective than many other forms of exercise in improving mood.
An article in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine claims that higher levels of the brain chemical gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) are release during yoga than during other types of exercise.
Kim Jobst, editor-in-chief of The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine said that studies into the benefits of yoga have proved the claims of practitioners of yoga therapy throughout the world.
"What is important now is that these findings are further investigated in long-term studies to establish just how sustainable such changes can be in the search for safe non-drug treatments for depression," she added.
Earlier this month, Dr Lance Workman, senior lecturer in psychology at Bath Spa University, said that exercise is particularly important in the winter as it increases serotonin levels, which fall when daylight hours shorten.
